Explosion proof industrial platform scale must be able to withstand / prevent explosion caused by gas or steam; such explosion may occur in the equipment, but it shall not escape through spark or flash; explosion proof weighing instrument will protect personnel and other nearby equipment from flammable substances near the combustion or on a large scale.
The National Electrical Code (NEC) was created by OSHA to provide a classification system based on how materials are handled in a variety of environments; they also set standards for the safe installation of electrical equipment and wiring in industrial facilities. NEC uses three criteria to classify each location: type, condition, and nature. Care should be taken with materials handled in every potentially hazardous location, and how each material becomes hazardous and flammable.
Any facility containing or handling flammable or explosive materials is considered hazardous and classified by NEC; only machines and equipment approved for their location type can be used in hazardous locations.
